What is High School Senior photography

For those who might be un-familiar with High School Senior Photography, it is simply is a genre of photography that focuses on providing stylized photoshoots for school students in their last year of high school. The students are typically aged between 17 and 18 years of age (year 12).

Traditionally these photos have been taken by the larger photographic studios on behalf of the school for the purposes of incorporating each graduates image in the graduation yearbook. The format is typical of those photos seen throughout previous years in front of a neutral background in a formal style pose.

For many years now in the United States, an entire industry has existed in High School Senior photography that celebrates a seniors’ life up to that point in time, seeking to capture their true character and individuality.

Some of the many ways a photographer can create value for these shoots are to:

  • Offer and Incorporate several wardrobe changes providing a wide variety of looks.

  • Suggest and introduce props that speak to the senior, e.g. Sports equipment, Musical Instruments and other props based on their hobbies and interests.

  • Offer a variety of locations that may offer some insight into the seniors’ personality. These can include but not limited to a park, beach, architecture, grungy urban, farm or studio.

  • Other ways to customize photographic service is to offer
